Hi, I'm Johanne.

My paintings emerge from stillness. Working with heavily diluted acrylics on clear-primed natural cotton canvas, I build delicate, transparent layers that evoke the lightness of watercolor. Light and space move softly across the surface; depth unfolds through the quiet interplay of water, pigment, and time.

My process is slow, physical, and intuitive. I work entirely without brushes, applying paint directly with my hands. This allows wave-like rhythms, open horizons, and atmospheric spaces to drift, merge, and gently recede. Nothing is fixed—the forms remain open, inviting personal resonance rather than definitive interpretations.

Painting is a contemplative practice for me: a translation of inner movement into visual calm, offering moments of pause within the rhythm of daily life.

I live and work in Cologne with my husband and our three children. My works are held in private collections in United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, England, Irland, Italy, Sweden and Germany.
